How to vote in Vermont

You're a U.S. citizen? Then you vote like anyone else. Five questions, in the order you'll ask them. Every date links to the page I read it on.

Can I still register?

  • Online: by .
  • By mail: your form has to arrive by .
  • In person: by .

Missed the deadline? You can still register on Election Day, at the place you vote.

You can register at your polling place during polling hours on Election Day, and at your town or city clerk's office on the days before.

Register on the state's own form. Not sure you are registered? Look yourself up on the state's own lookup.

Where the source gives a rule and not a day, I counted the day from it. In its words: “Registration is available during all normal business hours of your town or city clerk's office on days preceding the election and during polling hours on Election Day.” “Online registration deadline: Available up to and including on Election Day” “Mail-in registration deadline: Must be received by or on Election Day”

Where the source gives a rule and not a day, I counted the day from it. Where the source gives a rule and not a day, I counted the day from it. In its words: “All requests for absentee ballots must be submitted by 5 p.m. or by the close of the town clerk’s office on the day before the election” “Your clerk must receive your returned ballot by 7:00 PM ET on Election Day, so send it back with plenty of time to arrive.”

The last word

The state's election office has it, not me. If anything here differs from Vermont Secretary of State, Elections, the state is right. I checked these pages on 12 October 2026, and rules can change after that.
