How to vote in Michigan

You're a U.S. citizen? Then you vote like anyone else. Five questions, in the order you'll ask them. Every date links to the page I read it on.

Can I still register?

  • Online: by .
  • By mail: your form has to be postmarked by .
  • In person: by .

Missed the deadline? You can still register and vote on the same day, during early voting and on Election Day.

In the last 14 days and on Election Day you can only register in person at your local clerk's office, with proof of where you live. Be in line by 8 p.m.

To register, or to check that you are registered, start at Michigan Secretary of State, Elections (Michigan.gov/Vote).

Where the source gives a rule and not a day, I counted the day from it. In its words: “If there are 15+ days before an election, voters can register online, by mail, or in person.” “Applications must be received by, or postmarked as sent to your local clerk's office at least 15 days before Election Day in order to be processed in time for the next election.” “Voters in line by 8 p.m. on Election Day have the right to register to vote in person at their local clerk’s office.”

The last word

The state's election office has it, not me. If anything here differs from Michigan Secretary of State, Elections (Michigan.gov/Vote), the state is right. I checked these pages on 12 October 2026, and rules can change after that.

I tell you how to vote. I never tell you who to vote for. See how the people who represent Michigan score on Iran, or see how Iranians in one district vote as one.
